Barry.Nilsson. Lawyers is one of Brisbane's largest independent law firms. We are a values based organisation and we are unique in that we specialise in three areas of legal practice - insurance, commercial and family law.

Working at Barry.Nilsson. provides graduates with a solid foundation on which to build their legal career. Quite often, law students who join our graduate intake have done so after having the opportunity to assess what it's like to work here by:

• completing a summer vacation clerkship over three weeks; or
• enjoying a period as a law clerk assisting with legal research and other tasks.

Graduates

At Barry.Nilsson., we take our graduate employment process seriously. We see our graduates as our future. We only employ a limited number of graduates each year and ensure that they receive the best possible practical training.

Our graduate program aims to provide graduates with a balanced and well-grounded foundation for their legal career. The program has two parts: 

1. Completion of a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice. 
2. On the job training in at least two of the firm's practice groups. Graduates are given 'real' hands-on experience.

Some of the benefits of joining the firm include:

• A mentor is assigned to each graduate to help them settle in, discuss issues and to be a sounding board on technical issues.
• The firm encourages continued learning through attendance at in-house sessions and external seminars.
• Our published career progression policy provides guidance on what the firm will do to help you reach your goals.
• All full-time staff enjoy every second Friday afternoon off - this is referred to as our 9 and a half day fortnight policy.

Vacation clerkships

We encourage law students to apply for vacation clerkships. Clerkships are held over the summer break and usually last for three weeks with one week spent in each area of specialisation. We see the program as a way prospective graduates can gain a 'feel' for what we do and who we are.

Law clerks

Due to Barry.Nilsson.'s size, the firm periodically employs part-time law clerks. These clerks are usually assigned to one team and provide general legal support to that team. If you wish to be considered when a vacancy arises, please contact our Human Resources Manager.
