Stefanie Luhrs is a Senior Associate in our Insurance and Health team based in our Brisbane office.
Prior to joining Barry.Nilsson., she spent 8 years working at other leading national and global insurance firms.
Stefanie acts for both domestic and international insurers and their insureds, specialising in:
- Professional Indemnity
- Directors’ and Officers’
- Financial Lines
In recent years, Stefanie has developed expertise in cyber claims and has managed both small and large scale incidents for domestic and international insurers. She has acted as coverage counsel, privacy counsel and breach coach in matters involving high profile data breaches, ransomware, denial of service attacks and business email compromise across a range of industries including healthcare, financial services, professional services, hospitality, retail, insurance, real estate and technology.
“What interests me most about cyber is the evolving legal landscape both within Australia and more broadly. That coupled with the ever changing cyber threat landscape means the work is varied and that it presents new legal and regulatory issues that have not yet been tested.”
More broadly, Stefanie’s experience incudes defending litigated and non-litigated claims in complex multi-party financial, construction and D&O disputes. She has acted for a range of professionals, financial services firms, construction professionals and technology companies in multi-million dollar disputes and regularly advises insurers on complex or unusual coverage issues.
“I know that a ‘one-size-fits all’ approach towards clients doesn’t work, so I prioritise understanding their objectives right from the get go. I communicate in plain English and look for cost effective solutions, particularly when managing smaller claims where costs can easily become disproportionate to the amount claimed.”
“BN appealed to me because it presented an opportunity to work with technically excellent lawyers on a variety of work and during a time of incredible growth. It is known as a go-to firm for complex, insurance matters, and has a proven history of cultivating strong, long-lasting relationships with clients.”
Stefanie is a member of various insurance, privacy and cyber security organisations including the Australian Professional Indemnity Group (APIG), the Australian Information Security Association (AISA) and the Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA).
She is also a Co-Chapter Lead for the Australian Women in Security Network (AWSN) (Queensland) and was formerly the President of Young Insurance Professionals (Queensland).
