Phillip Thomas is a senior associate in our Insurance and Health team and is based in our Sydney office.
He has practised in insurance law for seven years, having previously worked for a national insurance firm, as well as a boutique Canberra based firm.
As an experienced insurance litigator, Phillip has advised and acted for a range of Australian based insurers in the areas of:
- Professional indemnity (in particular, medical negligence)
- Public liability
- Policy coverage
Phillip’s practice has also included compulsory third party and workers’ compensation matters.
Phillip has developed expertise in the fields of public liability and medical negligence, having defended a variety of claims across a number of jurisdictions. He has also developed a particular expertise in indemnity/policy interpretation disputes.
Across his broad practice, Phillip enjoys working closely with a variety of clients to provide timely, cost effective and clear strategic advice.

Phillip holds a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours), as well as a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. In his studies, Phillip was awarded twelve academic prizes, including the ACT Supreme Court Judges Prize for placing 1st in his graduating year.
Phillip is a member of the Australian Insurance Law Association, NSW Claims Discussion Group and NSW Law Society.
