Solicitor
Mitchell is a solicitor in our Insurance & Health team and is based in our Brisbane office.
He is currently developing his specialisation in:
- Cyber
- Professional indemnity
- Directors’ and officers’ liability
- Financial lines
- Policy coverage
“While working at BN, I have developed an interest in professional indemnity matters, especially those involving allegations of professional negligence against directors and officers, consultants, engineers, and financial advisers.”
“My recent exposure to cyber claims has also highlighted how quickly this legal space is evolving and I’m excited to be involved with this rapidly growing area.”
Mitchell rotated through the Graduate Program at Barry.Nilsson. and gained experience in the areas of public liability, medical negligence and family Law, prior to joining the professional indemnity team.
“I enjoy that every matter is different and there is never a “one-size-fits-all” approach that can be applied. I enjoy researching complex and emerging legal questions and applying the answers I find to unique factual circumstances.”
Before working at Barry.Nilsson., Mitchell worked in the medico-legal industry where he drafted, proofread, and critiqued medico-legal reports to ensure compliance with the American Medical Association's Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, 5th Edition (AMA 5) and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM 5). This gave Mitchell a good set of skills and basic medical knowledge that he refers to when working on claims involving personal injury and incapacity for work.
Mitchell is a member of Young Insurance Professionals (YIPs) Australia and the Australian Professional Indemnity Group (APIG).
He is also the current Secretary of Queensland Young Lawyers (QYL) which is an independent not-for-profit association dedicated to encouraging and supporting the personal and professional development of young lawyers and barristers in Queensland.
