Michael is a solicitor in our Property & Commercial team, having joined the Brisbane office in 2015.
Michael’s practice includes drafting and advising on commercial agreements, business sales, retail leasing, body corporate, franchising, residential conveyancing and general commercial matters.
Prior to making the move to the Property & Commercial team, Michael spent over two years in our Insurance & Health team. During that time, Michael actively managed a large portfolio of both litigated and pre-litigated public liability, personal injury and property damage claims in the development, construction, retail and employment sectors on behalf of insurers, local governments and a large supermarket chain. Many of the claims were multi-party and involved interpreting and placing reliance on contractual indemnities. As part of defending those claims, Michael was required to appear in court and to participate in settlement conferences and mediations.
Michael also acted on behalf of a large motor vehicle insurer in respect of litigated property damage recovery claims, with many of those claims proceeding to trial. He therefore has extensive experience in, and understands the commercial realities of, litigation. Michael also had the opportunity to complete a four month secondment with one of the largest general insurers in Australia, focusing solely on Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) disputes.
Prior to commencing at Barry.Nilsson., Michael worked as a Barrister’s Assistant and assisted in research in estate, franchising and criminal matters and other administration duties.
Michael has a Bachelor of Laws (Hons).
