Katrina is senior associate in our Insurance & Health team and is based in the Perth office.
Katrina specialises in the area of professional indemnity, including contractual claims, construction, consumer law claims, director and officer liability and regulatory disputes. Her clients include local and international insurers and their insureds.
"I really enjoy the process of working closely with a client to understand their industry, business and objectives so that litigation can be managed and resolved as effectively as possible. I like being there to guide and support them through the litigation process at what is always a difficult time in their professional lives."
Katrina is experienced in helping clients through the process of urgent and protracted litigation, and works closely with them to develop a thorough understanding of their industry, operational framework and risk profile.
"What interests me is the challenge involved in not only working through the legal aspect of a dispute and the intricacies of the claim, but also helping the client effectively manage the disruptive impact and commercial risk of the litigation. There is nothing more satisfying than resolving a dispute in a way that allows the client to put it behind them and move forward in achieving their business goals."
Prior to joining Barry.Nilsson., Katrina worked at a West Australian commercial law firm where she assisted statutory bodies, businesses and individuals in the resolution of claims involving contractual disputes, professional negligence, regulatory disputes, misleading trade practices and construction disputes, across a broad range of industries and with a focus upon complex commercial disputes. As such, Katrina was part of the team that acted on behalf of the former Potato Marketing Corporation of Western Australia in proceedings to restrain the alleged breach of a commercial agreement, and limit the risk of disorderly de facto deregulation of the Western Australian potato industry.
Katrina has a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts. She is a member of Australian Institute of Management Western Australia (AIMM), Law Society of Western Australia and Women Lawyers of Western Australia. Katrina has recently presented two "Duties of Officers and Directors" short courses on behalf of the Governance Institute of Australia.
