Jill Hambleton is a lawyer in our Family team, having joined Barry.Nilsson.’s Brisbane office in 2016 following her admission in 2015. Prior to this, Jill spent 5 years working as an insolvency accountant.
‘Throughout my career I have operated in a diverse range of environments; from accounting and legal aid, to tax and now family law where I can really follow my passion. My experience is well suited to family law where so many factors are at play.’
Jill has a broad practice, encompassing all aspects of family law. Her particular areas of specialism are:
- Property settlements
- De facto relationships
- Domestic violence
Her client base is equally diverse, ranging from high net worth individuals to clients that are dealing with financial difficulties alongside their family issues.
‘I enjoy being able to work closely with clients to achieve an outcome that suits them. No two cases are the same, and all clients have different objectives in what they want to achieve. Family law also demands skills in many different areas, not just law. I enjoy being able to use my accounting expertise when working on property matters.’
During her legal studies Jill was offered an internship with the National Commissioner for Women and Children in the Country of Bhutan to prepare a report in relation to their domestic violence legislation and make suggestions for Regulations to accompany the legislation. This report and its findings were presented to the QUT Law Faculty and members of the judiciary.
Jill has a Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons), as well as a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. She is a member of the Family Law Practitioners Association, the FLS Law Council and the Golden Key International Honour Society.
