Jarrad Mobbs is a special counsel and heads our Wills & Estates team. A Queensland Law Society Accredited Succession Law Specialist, he is based in the Brisbane office.
‘I have a background as a commercial lawyer in Australia and in London. I’ve worked on both the transactional and litigation sides of matters. On my return to Australia from the UK, I started working on some succession matters and found that I could use my commercial experience to assist my clients. Ultimately, my interest in the area led to my joining the in-house succession team at a major bank.
‘At Barry.Nilsson., my commercial background is particularly useful when it comes to advising clients on wills and estate matters, especially when dealing with high-net-worth individuals. My litigation experience is also valuable, because it enables me to draft documents in a way that reduces the chance of litigation further down the track.’
Jarrad advises on all aspects of succession law, including:
- Estate planning
- Administration of estates
- Dispute resolution.
More specifically, Jarrad can assist with:
- Planning and drafting of wills (including wills with testamentary trusts)
- Enduring powers of attorney
- General powers of attorney
- Advance health directives
- Superannuation nominations.
‘I think my clients appreciate that I do the work. I meet with them, we talk on the phone, and I draft the documents or manage their matters. If there is a problem, they can pick up the phone and talk to me directly. This seems to give them peace of mind. I also think my clients value how, in the case of family law matters, I work seamlessly with our team of very highly regarded family lawyers.’
Jarrad regularly advises executors, trustees and beneficiaries regarding their rights and obligations through the processes of deceased estates. He also has expertise in conducting estate litigation matters, which means he can assist with both prosecuting and defending estates in the Supreme and District Courts. He has experience of dealing with complex family situations, including blended families.
‘At Barry.Nilsson, we specialise in just three areas of law – Insurance & Health, Property & Commercial, Family Law and Wills & Estates. We don’t try to do everything, because we want to be sure we maintain the high quality of our work, which is something we’re known for. Clients trust that if we feel we don’t have the requisite expertise to deal with their legal issue, we’ll refer it elsewhere. We’re also very selective about whom we refer matters to. This means that our clients can be sure that they’re always dealing with experts and getting the best possible service. Obviously, when you’re facing issues surrounding your assets and your family, that’s crucial.’
