Jane Koelmeyer is a principal in our Family Law team and is based in the Melbourne office. She is a Law Institute of Victoria Accredited Family Law Specialist.
‘I began my career in the largest firm in regional Victoria. During that time, I worked on a wide range of litigation matters, including civil, family, wills and criminal cases. I also did quite a bit of work in the Children’s Court. This experience was invaluable, as it gave me a deep understanding of the particular challenges faced by separated families in regional areas, especially those living on farms or otherwise involved in agricultural enterprises. In 1998, I returned to Melbourne to work solely in family law.’
Jane specialises in matters involving:
- complex financial settlements
- financial agreements (prenuptial and cohabitation agreements)
- complex issues relating to children.
She has heard and determined appeals against administrative decisions on child support assessments, providing her an insight and understanding of the child support system – a particularly complex area.
Jane also advises on spousal maintenance, separation agreements and relocation disputes.
With clients located both in Australia and overseas, Jane also assists foreign residents residing in Australia with family law matters.
‘When working with clients, I’m always mindful that any family breakdown means that the parties are travelling through a very emotional landscape. My objective is to resolve the legal matter in a way that allows the parties to avoid the financial and other costs associated with litigation.’
‘I believe clients come to Barry.Nilsson. for family law advice because they know they’ll get highly personalised, market-leading expertise from collegiate and down-to-earth lawyers. Clients who are feeling overwhelmed and stressed due to their family situation find our “culture” a welcome respite. So, it’s not just what we do for our clients, it’s the way we do it.’
Jane was recognised as a leading family and divorce lawyer in Doyle's Guide.
