Carolyn is a special counsel in our Insurance & Health team. She is based in the Sydney office.
Carolyn has specialised in insurance law since 2002. She previously worked in the insurance group of a national firm, as well as two boutique insurance law firms and the Sydney office of a global firm.
An experienced insurance litigator, Carolyn advises and acts for Australian and international insurers, corporate self insureds and public authorities in the areas of:
- Public and product liability
- Professional indemnity
In addition, Carolyn provides insurance policy interpretation and indemnity advice to insurers and pursues recovery actions for first party property losses.
Carolyn works collaboratively with her clients to achieve the best possible outcome given the legal and commercial issues at hand, and each client’s strategic objectives.
‘I like working with sophisticated clients who are often involved in litigation. I advise on risk and strategies, and in conjunction with an interested client we can put in place a process for getting the best outcome in a claim.’
With a passion for insurance law, Carolyn enjoys keeping abreast of developments in the industry and regularly authors articles and presents seminars, both internally and externally. Her external presentations have included a Claims Discussion Group seminar and a Building and Construction Disputes Workshop for the Applied Law Program offered by the NSW College of Law. Carolyn was also interviewed by an industry journalist in late 2017 for an article published on Sourceable addressing the Supreme Court’s decision in Kabic v Workers Compensation Nominal Insurer (No 3) NSWSC 1281.
Carolyn holds a Master of Laws and a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts. In her undergraduate law studies she was awarded First Class Honours and the University Medal.
