Brian Trist is a consultant in our Insurance & Health Law team and is based in the Sydney office.

Brian has practised in insurance law for over 20 years. He has extensive experience in advising major insurance clients on a broad range of insurance matters including litigated claims, non-litigated claims, complicated indemnity matters, commercially sensitive matters, claims handling and claims resolution strategies.

Brian’s areas of expertise include:

  • Property damage liability;
  • Building and construction;
  • Product liability;
  • Policy coverage advice;
  • Contract works claims;
  • Industrial Special Risks; and
  • Dispute resolution.

During Brian’s career, he has had carriage of a broad range of matters involving, for example, residential and commercial building works, infrastructure works, bushfire class action, fire damage including arson, major gas explosions, defective marine structures, toxic stock feed, defective roofing insulation, commercial property, commercial plant and machinery, building materials, fraud, motor vehicles and farming machinery, home contents and asbestos claims.

'I enjoy working with insurer and insured clients to develop appropriate strategies, including thinking ‘outside the box’, in order to achieve commercially sensible and timely outcomes. I appreciate the key business drivers for my clients and what is important to them.'

Brian’s experience extends to the conduct of small to large scale settlement conferences to resolve claims prior to litigation and during the course of litigation.

Brian also enjoys preparing and conducting practical training workshops and seminars for insurance clients, which are tailored to suit the specific needs of the clients and their management/claims staff.
