Barry.Nilsson. Boosts Melbourne Family Law Practice

Wednesday, May 4 2016

Leading law firm Barry.Nilsson. has further expanded its family law practice, announcing today the appointment of a new Senior Associate to its Melbourne office.

Will Stidston has practised in family law since 2008 (exclusively since 2010) and became accredited as a specialist in family law by the Law Institute of Victoria in 2013. Previously, Will gained extensive experience in other areas of law including family violence and intervention order matters, commercial litigation, commercial law and criminal law.

Mr Stidston will join the firm’s growing family law practice in Melbourne, led by accredited family law specialist, Jane Koelmeyer, who was appointed in February.

“I’m delighted that Will is joining me in the Melbourne family practice – it is an exciting step in continuing the growth of Barry.Nilsson.’s family practice on a national level,” Ms Koelmeyer said. “Will’s broad range of expertise provides an excellent addition to our ability to manage and resolve complex family disputes, which often involve commercial considerations as much as family issues."

In relation to his expertise in family law matters, Mr Stidston has worked on a number of large scale and complex multi-million dollar property matters and difficult parenting cases, as well having exposure to trusts, international property and Hague Convention matters. He contributes to a national family law resource published by Thomson Reuters and has provided case updates for the Television Education Network.

Welcoming the firm’s latest appointment, Barry.Nilsson.’s Managing Partner, Don Leembruggen said: "Our firm is known for the quality and expertise of our people, and Will has a highly impressive track record in family law. He will be an invaluable addition to Jane’s team and to our firm in general as we continue the growth of our Melbourne practice."

The capabilities of Barry.Nilsson.’s family law team have been recognised by the independent Doyle’s Guide, with its latest peer-based survey of Australian clients and practitioners rating the firm as one of three "first tier" Brisbane-based family and divorce law firms. Among those recognised as "pre-eminent" was Partner Geoff Sinclair, who currently serves as Chairman of the World Congress on Family Law and Children’s Rights’ Board.
