Parliamentary Committee gives the go ahead for amendments to the Retail Shop Leases Act

22 May 2017 | Commercial Leasing

On 15 May 2017, the relevant Parliamentary committee recommended the Queensland Parliament pass the Court and Civil Legislation Amendment Bill 2017. The Bill will amend the Retail Shop Leases Act 1994 to restore the lessor’s defence for defective disclosure. This defence, which was introduced in 2006, was accidentally removed when the Act was amended last year. The Bill provides for the defence for lessors to be restored with retrospective effect.

For a summary of the Bill, please refer to our previous alert relating to the introduction of the Bill. If you would like to know more or receive clarification about how the changes introduced by the Bill might impact you, please contact Cameron Graham or Clive Nichol
