Queensland Family Law Practitioners’ Association Retreat 20199 July 2019 | General
More than 250 members of the Family Law profession recently gathered in Noosa for the second annual Queensland Family Law Practitioners’ Association (FLPA) Retreat. Delegates included judicial officers, solicitors, barristers, social scientists and financial services professionals.
Barry.Nilsson. was represented by solicitors from our Brisbane and Melbourne offices. We are proud to continue our strong commitment to the professional development of our team, and the broader family law community.
Held over 2.5 days, the retreat was an excellent opportunity for us to extend our professional knowledge, and to enjoy the company of our peers in a relaxed setting.
Highlights from the professional program included:
- The Honourable Stephen Thackray’s presentation about the outstanding work he has undertaken with remote aboriginal communities in Western Australia;
- Dr Cam McDonald’s insightful session about the epigenetics of stress and relationships in family and law, giving us a better understanding about what makes people tick;
- The Deputy Chief Justice of the Family Court of Australia, the Honourable Justice Robert McClelland and Michael Kearny SC, sharing their wisdom about the Full Court’s approach to contribution arguments in property cases and possible legislative amendments in this area moving forward; and
- Judge Steven Middleton and Dr Megan Morris, psychologist and counsellor, helping us better understand the perks, pitfalls and potentials of court ordered family therapy.
It is my privilege to serve as President of FLPA. I extend my sincere thanks to those involved in the many months of planning, and ultimately delivering an outstanding event.
