Boardroom Updates

Barry.Nilsson. Lawyers recently held a Boardroom Update on the much discussed and important judgment of the Queensland Court of Appeal in the State of Queensland v Allen, delivered in November. The judgment decided that the statement of a doctor, delivered in response to questions put by solicitors, was a “medical report” and hence not the subject of legal professional privilege in a claim for damages under the Personal Injuries Proceedings Act (PIPA).

The firm was proud to host Walter Sofronoff QC, SG, senior counsel for the State of Queensland in the appeal phase of Allen, to explain the outcome of the appeal and discuss implications for disclosure in PIPA matters.

Following Walter's presentation, Senior Associate Melanie Niotakis continued the topic by addressing some general issues with disclosure under PIPA.
